HowTo: Install ZiNET Connect

This guide describes how to install a new ZiNET Connect installation on Windows using the automated 'Windows Installer'.

Please Note: Some anti-virus or other Internet security tools may interfere with the ZiNET Connect installation process and prevent the process from completing successfully. If you experience or anticipate experiencing such an issue with your anti-virus/Internet security tool, disable this tool first before proceeding with the ZiNET Connect installation.

Download ZiNET Connect

Please see the section called 'ZiNET Connect Download'.

If you cannot see this section, you may not have purchased a license for ZiNET Connect from SchoolsICT Ltd. Call 0330 223 1050 or e-mail sales@schoolsict.net.

When you have purchased a license, you will be able to download ZiNET Connect and complete this installation.

Start the installation

Please Note: To install ZiNET Connect as a service, the Windows Installer must be run using a Windows administrator account. While you can run the Windows Installer with a non-administrator account, your installation options will be much more limited.

Please Note: If you ZiNET Connect is already installed skip this section and follow Install New Connector Instance section.

  • The installation wizard will install ZiNET Connect onto your operating system and will start ZiNET Connect automatically when the wizard finishes.
  • Run the '.exe' file to start the installation wizard.
  • If a Windows 7 (or Vista) 'User Account Control' dialog box requests if you want to allow the installation wizard to make changes to your computer, specify 'Yes'. If you do not, the installation wizard will have restricted access to your operating system and any subsequent installation options will be limited.
  • The installation wizard will install ZiNET Connect onto your operating system and will start ZiNET Connect automatically when the wizard finishes. ZiNET Connect will also be launched automatically in your browser window if you chose this option.

Click 'Next'.

Accept the default location and click 'Next'.

Click 'Install' and click 'Yes' if asked by the operating system if you wish to install.

The installation process will install files and start services.

Click 'Close' when the installation has completed and ZiNET Connect has been successfully installed.

Install New Connector Instance

Run the ZiNET Console

In your Windows menu you will see ZiNET Connect Updater and ZiNET Console. There will also be a shortcut to ZiNET Console on your desktop. Double-click the desktop shortcut or select the ZiNET Console from your menu to start the application.

Run Add/Remove Instances

From the Console Click Application -> Add/Remove Instances.

Install New Instance

Complete the following information

  1. The locale is United Kingdom by default.
  2. Enter your UK PRN Number (available from Edubase www.education.gov.uk/edubase.)
  3. Select the Datasource.
  4. Select the Intgration
  5. Click Install
  6. Click Close

Select Proxy from the Application Menu

Enter the proxy information.

  • Auto Detect Proxy Settings - This will use proxy information from Internet Explorer or the Operating System.
  • Use Custom Proxy Settings - This will use the information entered in the fields below. (It will be populated with information from Internet Explorer)
  • Do Not Use Any Proxy Settings - This will force ZiNET Connect not to use any proxy settings from Internet Explorer or the Operating System.

Click 'Save'

  • If the fields turn light green the save has been successful
  • If the fields turn red the save has failed and you should contact ZiNET Data Solutions support.
